MEET MICHELLE
Michelle and Tim Conlon live just inside the Perimeter off Ashford Dunwoody in the Nancy Creek Heights Subdivision. Residents since 2001, they make their home with their two dogs (Emma and Buster).
After Tim's graduation from the MBA program at the University of Notre Dame, they decided Atlanta offered them the most opportunity for the future of both of their careers. A twin and the youngest of five children raised by a single mother, Michelle is a first generation college graduate. She graduated with BS in Biology - Organization and Systems.
Michelle has accumulated a wealth of experience in both the private and public sectors. While in college, Michelle worked for both the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) - Division of Water Pollution Control (WPC) and Knox County's Solid Waste Division. In 1997, as the League of Women Voters (LWV) Natural Resources Chair for Knox County, Michelle was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Energy to the Tennessee Valley Electric System Advisory Committee. The committee's purpose was to establish recommendations on how the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) would function in a deregulated utility market. Although the committee's recommendations were never implemented, primarily because of the catastrophic consequences of utility deregulation in California (i.e., Enron), Michelle was the only woman appointed and by far the youngest member to advocate for the inclusion of consumer and environmental protections in the committee’s final report.
Michelle joined Tim in his second year at Notre Dame. While there, she worked for the Dean of the Mendoza College of Business. Although she was only there for a very short period of time, Notre Dame had a profound impact on Michelle, and she maintains relationships she started their to this day.
Once in Atlanta, Michelle took a position as AFC Enterprises Communications Manager. She managed a variety of projects including the company’s Initial Public Offering (IPO), its Company Foundation and helped create its Business Code of Conduct called “We are AFC.” Michelle’s work was recognized with a Phoenix Award by the Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) beating out Southern Company in the category for Annual Awards.
After leaving AFC Enterprises, Michelle worked briefly for a small consulting firm in Buckhead call Virtual Magic. In 2006, she joined the Perimeter Transportation Coalition (PTC). Michelle had previously been on the PTC board while at AFC Enterprises. When the position at PTC opened up Michelle jumped at the chance to work in an area close to her home on an issue close to her heart. Today, Michelle works for a renewable energy firm based in Georgia. She works specifically on selling, designing and installing solar water heating systems. Other parts of the business focus on energy efficiency and solar electricity.
Tim is a contract negotiator with a natural gas firm located in Georgia.
