ENDORSEMENTS
EDUCATION
- I believe it's time we stop cutting education and put our emphasis back on reading, math, science, discipline, character, and preparation for the global economy our kids will compete in.
- I believe we need to fund education in a way that homeowners don't get caught choosing between paying for schools and paying the mortgage.
- We need to make a financial commitment to our public schools that matches our words and invests in public education for our kids.
- We should restore HOPE by keeping HOPE scholarships in line with the cost of education, and expanding programs to help those who don't qualify, but could become college graduates if we'd just give them a hand in paying their tuition and fees.
ENVIRONMENT/NATURAL RESOURCES
- We have a moral obligation to leave our children and grandchildren with an Earth that is safe, beautiful and majestic.
- We should be able to eat the fish in our streams, know that the water our children drink and the food they eat is safe, and not have to travel hours from our homes to hunt, fish, hike or watch wildlife.
- We have some of the most respected Fortune 500 businesses, schools and universities in the country, and the fact that we have not fully leveraged that intellectual capital is an abdication of responsibility.
- Georgia has known for 20 years that a water crisis was looming. The fact that nothing substantively has been done to address this potentially catastrophic issue is reprehensible. Every elected official in Georgia should be held accountable for this situation.
FAIRNESS AND EQUALITY
- We are all equal in the eyes of God, and we should all be equal in the eyes of the law.
- No one should be discriminated against in the workplace for their race, color, or sexual orientation.
GOVERNMENT/TAXES
- I feel that Government should be just big enough to keep us safe and invest in things that allow every American to live a happy and healthy life, like good schools, health care, a clean environment, and infrastructure that makes Georgia a good place to do business.
- Our current tax system places levies on incomes, profits, sales, payrolls, and savings which discourages the very elements we claim to value in a healthy economy: jobs, savings, new investments and entrepreneurial activity.
GUNS
- We have to find common sense solution that protects the right of law-abiding Americans to own guns to hunt and protect their families but also protects the rights of law-abiding citizens to walk the streets of their own towns without fear, to know their kids will be safe in school, and individuals will be safe on alternative modes of transportation.
- Homeowners, business owners, and schools ought to have the right to say who can and can't carry a gun on their property.
HEALTH CARE
- I believe we need to make sure that everyone who works is able to get health insurance and doesn't have to worry that they could go bankrupt if they get a serious illness or catastrophic injury.
- It is critical that we work to promote preventative care and educate our children on the choices they make on a daily basis that will affect their quality of life.
- Every family deserves a family doctor. People who work hard for a living and who play by the rules should be able to take their kids to the doctor when they're sick, and no one should go without health care because of pre-existing condition.
TRANSPORTATION
- It is time for real action on alternative transportation choices in Georgia. If elected I would not fund one more penny for research. The only funding I would permit if there were tangible, measurable choices put in place. Since I've been living here in Atlanta, I know of at least three studies commenced about alternative choices to mitigate congestion around the Perimeter. I am not aware of any of those studies turning into actionable results.
- Giving truckers a viable alternative to by-passing Atlanta would result in a demonstrable drop in congestion and accidents on I-285.
- The fact that there is no HOV between I-85 and I-75 along I-285 completely discounts alternative choices people choose for getting to and from work if they live along any one of these corridors.
