Elect Michelle Conlon

(UPDATE 11/3)

ELECTION DAY 2008

I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in my campaign.  Thank you for your time and your support, we wouldn't be where we are without your support.

Additionally, I want to provide an update on a few items:  (1) negative mail from my opponent, (2) my position, (3) precinct locations and (4) ballot initiatives.

(1)  By now, many of you have most likely received several pieces of negative mail from my opponent.  My response is the issue he raised is a technicality that is being resolved and it begs the question that if he wants to talk about trust then he should have to answer to the fact that his last campaign was run on false pretenses.  I have nothing to hide and although there was some miscommunication between my campaign and required forms that need to be filed, we are resolving these issues.

(2)  If elected, I have stated that I will caucus with House Democrats to move Georgia in the right direction.

(3)  Precinct Locations - if for any reason, you are unclear about where to vote you can find your location by visiting the DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections website:  https://dklbweb.dekalbga.org/voter/#

(4)  There are several amendments that will appear on this year's ballot for DeKalb County.  I am including a couple of links that will hopefully allow you to become better informed on the amendments.

DeKalb County Referendum on Senate Bill 52:  "Shall the Act be approved which provides for the presiding officer to preside over meetings of the DeKalb County Commission and for the commission to establish its own agenda for such meetings."

The correct vote on this referendum is Yes.

DeKalb County Board of Education Non-Binding Advisory Referendum:  "Should DeKalb County Board of Education require that students in kindergarten through fifth grade wear school uniforms?"

The correct vote on this referendum is No.  Each school should have the authority to decide what is right for their community - parents and students included.

(UPDATE 9/1)

Meet Michelle

I have lived in the district since 2001 and have been happily married to my husband Tim since 1997.  I am a graduate of the University of Tennessee and a first generation college graduate in my family.  I have a BS in Biology and am currently working for a renewable energy firm based out of Georgia.

I have a passion for service, a love of our community, and a vision for the District.  I believe in the role of government with fiscal restraint and discipline.  I also believe that just because an issue is difficult doesn't mean that there is not a solution out there.  I don't profess to know everything, but I know how to ask for help and am smart enough to know that there are people smarter than me.

Specific issues:

  • Economy - We have got to invest in an infrastructure that removes our dependence on foreign oil while adding jobs to our economy.  By focusing on alternative energies, Georgia has a tremendous opportunity to be a trendsetter and not a follower.
  • Education - I am a product of the public education system, and I believe in the role that public education plays. The schools in our community deserve our support and the support of our state.
  • Transportation - Everyone talks about transportation, but we never see any action. I'm tired of Study Committees and I believe the time for studying is over and the time for action is now.
  • Taxes – Too many politicians talk about cutting taxes to gain our support and our tax liability is the same. It's time for honest people to be honest with taxpayers about where there money is going and how it is collected.

You can call me at 404.668.3103 or email at michelleconlon@yahoo.com

 Respectfully,

Michelle Conlon

Candidate - House District 80
